The Danger of a Divided Heart

We live in a culture that worships "options." We love keeping our doors open, our feet in two different worlds, and our hearts non-committal. But when I look at Scripture, I don’t see a God who is interested in lukewarm "maybe." I see a God who calls us to a radical, unwavering steadfastness.

The Apostle James warns us that the double-minded man is "unstable in all his ways" (James 1:8). If you’re drifting—if you’re waiting to see which way the wind blows before you decide to obey—you aren't following Jesus. You’re just wandering.

Consult the Creator, Not the Culture

Maybe you feel a nudge that something in your life needs to shift. Your career, a habit, or how you spend your time. Most people’s first instinct is to poll their friends or look for a "sign" that fits their desires.

Stop.

Before you move an inch, you must consult the Creator of your soul. We serve a God who says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go" (Psalm 32:8). If a change is needed, it shouldn't come from a place of restless boredom; it should come from a place of divine direction.

Be Resolute in His Path

Once He speaks through His Word and His Spirit, move. Don’t be wishy-washy. Don't be the person who says "I'll try" when God said "Go." As Christians, we know the importance of standing firm on the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus (Revelation 14:12). That requires a backbone.

Now, if you’re going to be "wishy-washy," let it be in your commitment to your own ego. Be quick to abandon your own plans the moment they conflict with His. Be "unstable" in your pride, but rock-solid in His Truth.

If you are headed in the right direction, don't let the world distract you. Stand firm. Let your "Yes" be "Yes." Because one day, we will stand before Him, and the only thing that will matter is whether we stayed the course He set before us.
