Are You Superstitious...And Still Wearing Church Clothes?

Image
For almost three months, nothing happened. Not almost nothing. Nothing. I had introduced two people who clearly needed to meet. One had access to doors — platforms, programs, interviews, visibility opportunities, and spaces where meaningful stories could reach the people who needed them. The other carried a message born out of compassion, grief work, healing, and service. Her life’s work was helping hurting people find language for pain, memory, loss, love, and hope. It made sense. Too much sense. That was the strange part. Have you ever made a connection that looked so obviously meaningful, so clearly aligned, so full of possibility — and then watched it sit there? No movement. No meeting. No follow-up. No spark. Just silence. Three months of “maybe later.” Three months of “I thought this would happen by now.” Three months of wondering whether the moment had passed. Then one day, the person with access to the platforms had a cancellation. A sudden gap in the schedule. An unexpec...

Who Do You Trust In Time of Need?

Image
When times are difficult, generosity often feels like the last thing we can afford. Yet, Scripture reminds us that it is in seasons of need that the beauty of giving shines brightest. The widow who gave her two small coins (Mark 12:41–44) had little, but her faith made her gift immeasurable. Jesus honored her offering because it reflected trust in God’s provision rather than reliance on earthly security. Generosity isn’t only about money—it’s about sharing our time, our prayers, our encouragement, and our presence with those who are struggling. In Galatians 6:2 we’re told to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” When we open our hands and hearts, we reflect the character of Christ, who gave Himself fully for us. During times of crisis, fear can tempt us to hoard or retreat. But generosity reminds us that our hope isn’t in our resources—it’s in God. Acts 2 describes the early church as believers who shared everything, ensuring that “there we...

The 'Merry-Heart' Power in Your Thoughts: Does It Really Have Health Benefits?

Image
Your Mind and Your Health Are Linked What if the most influential medicine you ever take… starts with a single thought? We live in a culture that divides health into categories—mental, physical, emotional. But your body doesn’t operate in compartments. It responds to your internal world as one interconnected system. And at the center of that system? Your thoughts. Every thought creates an electrical signal. That signal triggers chemical messengers—hormones and neurotransmitters—that influence your digestion, sleep, mood, immunity, and even your energy. That means anxiety, hope, fear, and peace don’t just “live in your head.” They have ripple effects that reach every system in your body. The Gut-Brain Connection: Real, and Electric Your gut isn’t just digesting food—it’s helping you process life. It’s often called the “second brain” because it produces up to 90% of your body’s serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for mood, calm, and clarity. And it communicates with your br...

Rethinking “Truth” in a Processed World

Image
We live in a world obsessed with convenience, image, and taste. Health-conscious branding is everywhere: “plant-based,” “low-carb,” “guilt-free,” “natural flavors.” It all sounds so good, feels so safe, and fits perfectly into our busy, wellness-driven lifestyles. But underneath the sleek design and sweet flavor… what’s really there? Let’s be honest: much of what’s sold to us as “healthy” is processed, synthetic, and carefully engineered to taste better than it is . We’re drawn in by how it looks and how it makes us feel for the moment—but rarely do we stop to read the label, question the source, or ask: Is this really good for me? When Taste Becomes a Trap This same principle applies far beyond food. We often build our choices—physically, mentally, and spiritually—on what feels right. But Scripture warns us: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” — Proverbs 14:12 That’s not just about morality—it’s about deception. Satan doesn’t show up w...

Are You Being a Proper Steward?

Image
When we think of stewardship, we often picture the care of natural resources, our communities, our finances and even our time and talents. Rarely, though, do we consider that the concept of stewardship extends to our bodies as well. How marvelous and beautiful is God’s creation! There's a uniqueness and intricacy in all of His works, but humanity holds a distinctive place in creation. Our bodies are magnificent works of craftsmanship and also the temple of the Holy Spirit. The understanding of our bodies being temples of the Holy Spirit implies that God Himself dwells within us. This realization can be both inspiring and humbling. It inspires us to strive for purity, holiness, and health because we house the Spirit of God. When we view our bodies through this lens, it becomes clear that taking care of our physical health isn't just about looking good or living longer. It's an act of worship. It's a way of honoring God, showing gratitude for the life He has given us and ...

What Does it Truly Mean to Take a Sabbath Rest?

Image
In today’s fast-paced world, the concept of Sabbath rest often feels out of reach. Yet, God’s command to observe the Sabbath offers a crucial reminder of our need for spiritual rejuvenation. But what does true spiritual "rest" look like on the Sabbath? Spiritual rest on the Sabbath isn’t merely about physical relaxation, though that’s certainly a part of it. More importantly, it’s about setting aside our daily routines and distractions to refocus our hearts and minds on God. It's an intentional pause to delight in His presence and the world He created. This rest allows us to recharge spiritually and strengthen our relationship with the Creator. Engaging in spiritual rest means immersing ourselves in activities that draw us closer to God. This could include spending extended time in prayer, diving into Scripture, or participating in worship services. It’s about creating space to listen to God’s voice and reflect on His goodness and faithfulness. Another aspect of Sabbath r...

Is Your Soul A Little Congested?

Image
What is Spiritual Congestion? As late spring arrives, so does the dreaded sinus congestion for many, thanks to the high pollen count. It's a seasonal nuisance that clouds our senses. This physical discomfort can be paralleled with spiritual congestion, where distractions and worries cloud our spiritual perception. Diagnosing the Issue Just as allergens block our nasal passages, life's worries can obstruct our spiritual pathways, making it hard to experience the rejuvenating presence of the Holy Spirit. Jesus speaks to this condition in Matthew 11:28-30, promising rest and relief to those burdened by life's 'allergens.' Christ, Our Spiritual Decongestant In this scripture, Christ offers to clear the spiritual clutter, much like a decongestant clears nasal passages. He invites us to shed the burdens of worldly concerns and return to a state of spiritual clarity and connectedness. Reflective Questions As you handle your seasonal allergies, think about what might be c...
