Jesus Didn't Cling to Comfort... He Clung to the Cross

Image
There are moments in life when everything familiar is stripped away, and you’re left with a simple, unsettling question: Is God enough? Not in theory. Not in a sermon answer. But in real life—when plans collapse, comfort disappears, and control is gone. I think about hurricanes hitting places like Jamaica. Winds tearing through homes. Power gone. Communication cut off. Families huddled together, unsure of what the next hour will bring. In those moments, no one is worried about staying connected to the world. The illusion of control evaporates. What remains is fear, vulnerability—and often, prayer. What’s striking is that when people are most “unplugged” from the world, God often feels the closest. We don’t like that idea. We prefer God plus stability. God plus comfort. God plus answers. But Scripture repeatedly shows a God who allows His people to lose everything else so they can discover that He alone is sufficient. Not because He is cruel—but because He loves us too much to let u...

"The Provision You Didn’t See Coming: Lessons of Hope from the Water’s Edge

Image
What does an overlooked, humble plant like watercress have to do with faith?  At first glance, not much. But what if I told you this resilient green has something to teach us about surviving in spiritual dry seasons, the hidden provision of God, and even the journey of faith itself? A Plant That Thrives Where Others Can’t Watercress isn’t like most plants. It doesn’t grow in lush gardens or perfectly curated farms—it thrives in flowing water . It survives where others might drown. It flourishes in motion. Sounds a lot like faith, doesn’t it? Jesus said, "Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them." (John 7:38) Faith was never meant to be stagnant. It was meant to move, to be nourished by the Living Water of Christ, and to withstand environments that seem uninhabitable . How often do we feel like we are drowning in uncertainty —in a world of misinformation, broken relationships, and constant pressure to prove ourselves...

Examining the Upside-Down Politics of God

When we examine the politics of this world, we see a system often driven by self-interest, pride, and the pursuit of power. Campaigns hinge on promises that appeal to personal gain, leaders often seek recognition and influence, and policies can be shaped by the desire to maintain control. This isn’t new; it reflects the broken nature of humanity and a world separated from God’s design. But God’s politics—the way His kingdom operates—stands in stark contrast. In the kingdom of God, power is displayed through humility, and greatness is achieved by serving others. Jesus, the ultimate King, demonstrated this when He washed His disciples' feet and ultimately gave His life on the cross. Philippians 2:3-8 reminds us to "do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit" and points to Jesus’ humility as our model. While worldly politics thrives on pride and the struggle for dominance, God’s politics is rooted in selflessness. Matthew 20:26-28 captures this beautifully: “Whoever ...
