Is Your Power Source Giving You Flickerless Light. . .Always?
Your Love Lamp: Is It Shining Steady or Flickering?
Imagine a beautifully polished lamp sitting on a table, admired for its craftsmanship and glow. From the outside, it’s flawless, casting a steady light in the room. But what happens when the power source falters? Without electricity, the lamp—no matter how perfectly designed—becomes just an ornament, unable to fulfill its true purpose. In the same way, our lives can look polished and "good" from the outside, but when the source of our inner strength is cut off, our goodness flickers and fades when high-stress levels hit our lives.
The Difference Between The External Shine and Inner Power
Like a lamp, our outward actions may shine for a time—through good habits, discipline, and moral behavior. But external actions, however disciplined, are only reflections of what’s happening inside. Many people can practice kindness, but if their power source— their heart—isn’t plugged into true love, their goodness is like a flickering bulb, inconsistent and temporary. It may shine brightly for a while, but without the internal power to sustain it, the light dims when life’s storms hit.
The real question becomes: are we content to be lamps that look good but flicker under pressure, or can we find a constant, reliable power source that sustains us?
True Love: The Constant Power Source
True love is like an uninterruptible power source. It doesn’t rely on external circumstances to keep shining. It endures beyond good habits or surface-level behaviors and continues even in the darkest moments. But here’s the key—this kind of love doesn’t come naturally to us. We, on our own, are prone to burn out, to act out of selfishness, or to love conditionally.
Only One Love Can Sustain the Light
Human effort alone is like relying on a faulty power grid. We can try to be good on our own, but eventually, that energy runs out. Scripture tells us that Christians should "be doers of the word, and not hearers only" (James 1:22). It's not enough to look like a shining lamp—we need to be connected to a constant power source that changes us from within. Paul explains that living by faith doesn’t mean discarding the law. Instead, "we establish the law" (Romans 3:31) through faith in Christ. This means our goodness must flow from a heart transformed by God’s love, not from merely following rules.
Paul warned that "by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight" (Romans 3:20), because following rules without the power of Christ is like trying to light a lamp without electricity. It's only when we are plugged into God's love that our actions are powered by something eternal.
Plugging Into Amazing Power
The heart can only truly be transformed by God’s love. Without it, we are like lamps with no real power—our habits may give a temporary glow, but only God's love is the enduring power source. Christ’s love is the only thing that can turn a heart from selfishness to selflessness, from flickering behaviors to a steady, unwavering light. As we embrace His Word and let His Spirit fill us, we don’t just follow the law—we live it, powered by the true source of all love.
So, ask yourself: Is your life a lamp flickering on your own strength, or are you plugged into the true source of power—God’s love—that will keep your light shining no matter what?
