When You Get Hit Again. . .and Again!
When You’re Hit Again…and Again
Hurricanes, like Helene and Milton, often start their journey off the coast of Africa, forming in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean. As the sea temperatures rise, low-pressure systems gather moisture and energy, evolving into powerful storms. The warming of the ocean caused by climate change is one reason hurricanes are becoming more frequent and intense. These storms are fueled by heat, and with global temperatures rising, conditions are ripe for stronger, more destructive hurricanes.
Much like these relentless storms, life often throws its own hurricanes our way—blows that hit again and again. Whether it's financial hardships, health issues, or personal relationships, it can sometimes feel as though we’re caught in a cycle of storms. You prepare for one hit, only to face another just as the last one fades. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the forces we can’t control.
The Bible teaches us that life on this earth is affected by the fall of humanity into sin, which introduced chaos and decay into the world. In Romans 8:22, Paul writes, “For we know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” We see this groaning not just in our personal struggles but also in the very environment around us, as extreme weather, like hurricanes, becomes more frequent.
What should we do when life feels like an unending storm? Jesus reminds us that, though we will face tribulations, we are not alone. In John 16:33, He says, “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Though we cannot control the weather or many circumstances, we can find peace in knowing that our resilience is anchored in God.
How do you respond when you’re hit again and again? Are you preparing yourself spiritually for the storms that may come? James 1:12 says, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” Hold onto this hope when the hurricanes of life hit—knowing that more may come but so will Christ, to calm the storm forever.
