Storms of Life or Winds of Spirit?

Storms are a striking demonstration of energy in nature. They combine kinetic energy from wind, thermal energy from the atmosphere, and electrical energy from lightning. During the recent Pathfinder Camporee, a storm threatened to cut short a time of fellowship and worship. The storm, however, became an opportunity to experience God’s grace as leaders made quick adjustments, allowing worship to continue despite the turmoil. This moment reminds us of how storms—both literal and spiritual—manifest powerful energy in our lives.

Just as nature’s energy can be overwhelming, the internal storms we face in life can feel all-consuming. In moments of uncertainty, we might feel out of control, much like the disciples in Mark 4:37-39 when their boat was caught in a storm. As they panicked, Jesus rose and commanded the wind and sea, “Quiet! Be still!” Immediately, the storm calmed. This miracle shows that Jesus has the power not only to calm physical storms but also to bring peace to the storms within us.

Yet, Jesus doesn’t only stop the bad storms. He also stirs up a positive spiritual energy within us, energizing us to serve God and inspire others. When a thousand people showed up for an impromptu vespers service at the Pathfinder Camporee after a storm, it wasn’t just the weather calming—it was Jesus working in the hearts of young people, stirring them up to connect spiritually and worship God.

This energy that Jesus brings into our lives isn’t temporary like a passing storm. It’s enduring and uplifting, empowering us to rise above our struggles and live with purpose. In Nehemiah 8:10, we’re reminded that “the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Jesus stirs our spirits not just to survive life’s challenges but to thrive and help others see God’s love through our lives.

Thought-Provoking Questions:

  1. Is your spiritual energy enough to inspire and serve others, or are you barely getting by?
  2. How can you allow Jesus to stir up lasting spiritual energy in your heart?

Reflect on these questions, and invite Jesus to calm the storms and ignite your spiritual energy today.
