Where to Find Your Minerals

In the previous post we discovered wonderful plant-based foods that provide us with the vitamins the body needs. In this post we are going to discover where to find the minerals the body needs. The body requires minerals for the composition of body fluids, the building of blood and bones, healthy nerve function, and muscle tone. The chemical balance of the body depends on the levels of minerals in the body. If one level is out of balance, all the others are affected, and this can cause other imbalances that can lead to illness.

Calcium builds healthy bones and teeth; helps blood clots. It regulates heartbeat and mineral balance. You can find this mineral in almonds, dandelion green, dulse, kelp, kale, parsley, figs, alfalfa, sesame seeds and sprouts, watercress, wheatgrass.

Iodine stimulates thyroid gland and helps with growth and development. You can find this mineral in sea vegetables such as dulse, kelp and in leafy greens, and wheatgrass.

Chlorine helps with digestion and elimination. It sustains normal heart activity. You can find this mineral in avocados, celery, kale, kelp, lettuce, radishes, red cabbage, spinach, tomatoes.

Iron helps form hemoglobin and myoglobin. Aids oxygen transport to cells and prevent anemia. You can find this mineral in bean sprouts, dulse, fruits, leafy greens, lentil sprouts, raw nuts and seeds, whole grains, dates.

Phosphorus builds and maintains bones, teeth, hair, and nervous tissue. It assists cells in absorbing fats and carbohydrates. You can find this mineral in bean sprout, dulse, fruits, kelp, raw nuts, pumpkin and squash seeds, sesame seeds and sprouts, sprouted grains, sunflower seeds and sprouts, vegetables, wheatgrass.

Potassium maintains mineral balance and weight. It tones the muscles. You can find this mineral in apricots, avocados, bananas, dates, dulse, figs, dried fruits, garlic, potatoes, nuts, raisins, winter squash and yams.

Sodium aids in digestion, speeds elimination of carbon dioxide, and regulates body fluids and heart action. You can find this mineral in asparagus, celery, cucumbers, dulse, kelp, olives, sesame seeds, sprouts, watercress.

Zinc helps the immune system and metabolism function. It helps with wound healing, and with the sense of taste and smell. You can find this mineral in dulse, kelp, legumes, pumpkins seeds, mushrooms, soybean, sunflower seeds, whole grains, and alfalfa.

Everything we put into our bodies has an effect upon us. It can be good or bad, immediate, or long term, predictable or not; but one way or the other there will be an effect. Proper nutrition is a fundamental aspect of good health!

Verse To-Go:
